The school year started with the Multicultural Camp again
This year we organized the third annual traditional school opening of the Multicultural Tarczy Camp located in the romantic landscape of „Árnyaserdő" guesthouse. This year 30 Hungarian and 9 foreign students from grades 2-8 participated in the camp.
We concentrated on the characteristics of the Bilingual Section, teaching in both Hungarian and English besides the traditional camp programs, we also provided students with the opportunity to get acquainted with nature and to encourage healthy eating.
Here is a little taste of the three-day program:
We arrived at the camp in bright sunshine, and after the students had occupied their rooms the treasure hunt started for big and small looking for Kinder surprises underneath the bushes. Then their diligent hands ruled the scene. The younger ones moulded plaster, sewed perfume sachets and filled them up with scented lavender. The bigger ones painted the little fishing pond surrounded by reeds on wooden spatulas. Before lunch both older and younger danced to hot Latin music called Zumba fitness.
Horse riding and carriage riding are always popular and we couldn't have left them out. Archery and felting wool were also part of the program. The children also made jewellery from metal sheets. The older students participated in a quiz on the Age of Knights - this was conducted in English since History is in English language from grade 5.
In the evening they participated in disco and other activities. The campers went to bed very tired since they were in the fresh air for so long and had lots of enriching experiences.
Tuesday morning started with physical exercises, then they got acquainted with nature. A Science quiz in English was waiting for the lower and upper graders - that way they could prove in the playful activities that they haven't forgotten everything studied last year.
In the afternoon the upper graders visited Lake Tevel. Since the weather was fine on this day, too, they also went bathing in the cool water of the lake. Meanwhile the younger children were prepared bran cakes in Gabi néni's witch kitchen.
On this day Attila Rizik was our guest in the camp, teacher at the Bilingual School in Erzsébetváros, Budapest. He enchanted the children with his charming personality, songs accompanied by quitar and plays.
After eating pancakes the campers lit a camp fire and then went for star hunting with a torch. They also sang merry songs until it was time for bed.
On Wednesday morning the camp souvenirs were ready, table clothes were made with batiking technique, bookmarks were made with thread graphics technique, and they created camp postcards.
We spent three enriching days in Ugod. We were eagerly awaiting for the school bell to ring with lots of experiences. I would like to thank my colleagues for the variety of enjoyable programs and the children for the merry atmosphere!
