Bilingual

Süteménykóstoló délután

On 14th December the Bilingual Section organized its cake tasting party for the second time. We welcomed all the foreign and the Hungarian students and their kind parents.
For this event we also asked the parents to make some cookies and provide their recipes for other people to try at home if they wished.
The main aim of this event event-beside to attune to Christmas - was to test international cookies and bring the multicultural community closer to each other.
At the party the guests could try more than 50 different cakes and sweets. Beside the delicious cakes the mood was also intensified by fragrant hot tea and nice Christmas music.

Thanksgiving

On Wednesday, November 23rd our students from the USA, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Poland and Bulgaria participated in a performance to celebrate the American holiday, Thanksgiving. The children performed in plays and recited poems. We are thankful for their hard work and dedication in making the performance a success.

The Thanksgiving Story

Most stories of Thanksgiving history start with the harvest celebration of the pilgrims and the Native Americans that took place in the autumn of 1621. Although they did have a three-day feast in celebration of a good harvest, and the local natives did participate, this "first thanksgiving" was not a holiday, simply a gathering.

A ’dead good’ Halloween

At the end of October -according to our traditions-various witches, ghosts, vampires, mummies, monsters, skeletons and black cats got possession of the evocatively decorated gym.
The party started with the Halloween performances of the classes. There were happy and creepy poems, scary songs, ghostly chants and a play too. These little performances were really successful and enjoyed all the children and parents were present. Introductions of the creative and eerie costumes with background music were greatly applauded too. (We have never seen so much little witches!)

The school year started with the Multicultural Camp again

This year we organized the third annual traditional school opening of the Multicultural Tarczy Camp located in the romantic landscape of „Árnyaserdő" guesthouse. This year 30 Hungarian and 9 foreign students from grades 2-8 participated in the camp.
We concentrated on the characteristics of the Bilingual Section, teaching in both Hungarian and English besides the traditional camp programs, we also provided students with the opportunity to get acquainted with nature and to encourage healthy eating.
Here is a little taste of the three-day program:

Camp for the first graders

The school preparation camp was held on August 29th and 30th, 2011 for our future first graders at the Bilingual Section in our school. Zsanett Kiss and Dóra Horváth teachers were waiting for the students with playful activities.

The school preparation camp

The school preparation camp was held on August 29th and 30th, 2011 for our future first graders at the Bilingual Section in our school. Zsanett Kiss and Dóra Horváth teachers were waiting for the students with playful activities. On both of the days the children were given a foretaste of school life, they were showed around our school and the teachers held short activities for them in connection with the different subjects. These two days were of great importance because the foreign students, together with the Hungarian students, also participated in the actitivities. This way they got acquainted with their future school and could make friends with the new milieu. Two new American teachers, Marielle Emond and Daniel Tirell, also helped us in our work.

Open Day at the Bilingual Section

For the first time, this year the Bilingual Section of Tarczy Lajos Elementary School opened itself to the parents of the future 1st graders. Interested parents could attend P.E. and Science lessons in English language held by Zsanett Kiss and Dóra Horváth, teachers of the future 1st graders.

Parents attended the lessons in two groups because of the lagre number of visitors. The 2nd graders' PE lesson started with gymnastics and the children followed instructions from teacher Zsanett Kiss in English without having any difficulties. The children participated in line races and games in a cheerful atmosphere and were not disturbed by the curious looks of the guests.

The 3rd graders' Science lesson was also held in English.
