Különleges, egyedülálló fafaj, egzotikus növény. Hazája Kína, de japán közvetítéssel került Európába. Lombfakadás előtt felálló kúpos bugákban hozza virágait április-májusban. Hatalmas, szív alakú levelei vannak, dekoratív, sokáig egyben maradó terméssel. Latin nevét (Paulownia tomentosa) egy orosz cár lányáról kapta. (N.J.)
